UPDATE: Important Notice About Surface Water Conversion!

UPDATE: There have been several schedule changes in the last several weeks, but SCFPUD is slated to start receiving surface water from LAKE HOUSTON on Thursday, May 27th. The conversion to the new disinfection process has already taken place. (Updated May 24, 2010)

The SCFPUD will be changing the disinfectant used from chlorine to chloramines with the delivery of surface water to our district. There will be notices in your coming water bills which will indicate the cutover date for the delivery of surface water. This change is intended to benefit our residents by reducing the potential levels of disinfection byproducts in the system, while still providing protection from waterborne disease.

However, the change to chloramines can cause problems to person dependent on dialysis machines. A condition known as hemolytic anemia can occur if the disinfectant is not completely removed from the water that is used for the dialysate. Consequently, the pretreatment scheme used for the dialysis units must include some means, such as a charcoal filter, for removing chloramine prior to this date. Medical facilities should also determine if additional precautions are required for other medical equipment.

In addition, chloraminated water may be toxic to fish. If you have a fish tank, please make sure that the chemicals or filters that you are using are designed for use in water that has been treated with chloramines. You may also need to change the type of filter that you use for the fish tank. (Posted November 11, 2009, Archived July 24, 2010)

Notice of Systematic Flushing of Water System in District

On April 13th, 14th and 15th the District will be doing a systematic flushing of the water distribution system.  This flushing is being done in preparation for the upcoming change in disinfection methods.  As you were previously notified the District will be converting from Chlorine to Chloramination disinfection.

During system flushing you may experience discolored water (red water) and/or lower than normal water pressure.  We recommend that you refrain from washing clothes during this time frame as the discolored water might damage your clothes particularly the white clothes.  Although your tap waters appearance may change during this time the water will be safe to use.  The “red water” is caused by iron in the water that builds up the pipes over time.

We would like to apologize in advance about any inconvenience the system flushing might cause you.  Please know that the District is doing everything possible to provide you with safe and reliable drinking water. (Posted March 10, 2010, Archived April 21,2010)

News: SCFPUD Reimbursed by FEMA for Hurricane Ike

This information updated 10/28/2009. Our water district incurred numerous expenses related to Hurricane Ike and the power outage after the storm. Besides taking responsibility for removal of non-organic storm debris, the SCFPUD used diesel fueled generators to deliver water and pump sewage. The costs for this operation were considerable. Not knowing whether we would get any money from FEMA for our expenses, nor truly understanding the FEMA reimbursement process, the SCFPUD decided it would not hurt to ask. As of 10/28/2009, FEMA has reimbursed SCFPUD $133,655.16. The SCFPUD Board of Directors wishes to publicly thank our District Operator, Mark Ivy, and our District Attorney, MS. Lori Aylett, for their diligent effort in pursuing this collection on our behalf. Archived February 9, 2010

This audit is an intensive review of accounting records, systems, and controls which tests our district's compliance with statutory law and bond resolutions. To obtain a copy of the 2006 audit, you must complete an Open Records Request with the TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality). Request Document ID #232510.
