Meetings
The SCFPUD Board of Directors meet once per month, typically on the 2nd Tuesday at Noon, although this can change depending on the availability of Board members and is sometimes changed. If you plan to attend, contact the law office of Smith, Murdaugh, Little & Bonham, L.L.P. ahead of time and make certain the meeting is taking place. These meetings fall under the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas Government Code. All residents wishing to attend the meeting, or who have business with the SCFPUD, have a standing invitation to attend.
For those residents who wish to conduct official business with the SCFPUD Board of Directors, you must request inclusion of your topic and have it added to the agenda, prior to the agenda being published. You may contact the law office of Smith, Murdaugh, Little & Bonham, L.L.P. to request to be put on the agenda for a specific meeting.
Because of the immense importance of water and sewage to the general public, the State of Texas highly regulates the operation of public utility districts, like SCFPUD. As a result, there are considerable rules governing the manner in which districts must operate. In fact, your SCFPUD Board of Directors are elected members of government, recognized by the State of Texas. If you plan to attend regular meetings of the SCFPUD, we recommend you read "A Handbook for Board Members of Water Districts in Texas.". This freely available publication by the TCEQ will provide you with detailed insight in the operation of the district.
You should also note that the SCFPUD can convene an "executive session" at any board meeting to discuss items without the general public in attendance. While not done routinely, there are matters from time to time where this procedure is invoked. The ability to perform this measure is legal and regulated within the Open Meetings Act referenced above.
